(S-S) "Summertime means picnics, swimming holes, and girls in short shorts. It also means mosquitoes, daytime drinking, heat stroke, and power outages...monsoons, hurricanes, and strange rotting smells. Chinese Restaurants’ “feel good hit of the summer” dumps all the above into a blender, throws a pair of battery cables into the pool, and shocks the "summer song" into a different level of sanity. “Summer Romance” shambles like dementia dehydrated, hooks galore buried, with references to a billion summer classics and other tunes by Television, ? and the Mysterians, Joy Division, Mungo Jerry, David Dundas, etc. Music freaks are invited to annotate this song at their own peril.

The flip is a stirring rendition of the Mexican classic “Nunca Jamas”, a strum happy dirge that brings to mind The Ex and their take on folk songs from the Spanish Civil War. The combo of avant-punk irreverence, raw & loud, and the Latin folk song is one that hasn't happened enough. S.S. is glad to slap this tune on a single.

The Chinese Restaurants are from New York City and are helmed by el F Restaurant (AKA Acapulco Rodriguez) and Keith Restaurant (ne Rodgerson). When we last met the Restaurants they were hand in hand with sonic dadaist Mattin, debuting their "River of Shit" ep on S.S. This is their second 7”, now getting heavy rotation on WFMU and KDVS."
